Getting away for a week or two can really make all of the hard work you have put in during the year worthwhile. A chance to relax and refresh, however, it can be expensive. Along with flights and hotels, you need spending money, tickets, transfers and of course clothes. And with it being the end of the summer, the last thing you will want to do is blowing money on lots of new clothes that you won’t get to wear again until next spring. However, there are ways you can look fabulous every day of your trip but without spending excessively (or ending up with lots of items that you can’t wear again for a while). Here’s how you can go about it!

Create a Capsule Wardrobe

The best thing about a capsule wardrobe is they’re versatile but with needed a lot of items. With just a few pieces you can create a different outfit for everyday day and without feeling like you’re constantly in the same things. Start with your staple pieces, this could be a couple of dresses, a pair of jeans or trousers, a skirt or a pair of shorts. If you choose neutral colors here it makes everything far easier as every other item you choose will match. From there, choose a few jackets, accessories and pairs of shoes that will work with each of the staple pieces. For a holiday it could be something like a pair of sandals or flip flops like these from The Iconic. Then every outfit you wear whether it’s a dress, a skirt, a pair of jeans or shorts will work with the shoes. You only need to buy a few items so as well as saving space in your suitcase you will also save money too.

Choose Items You Can Wear in Autumn and Winter Too

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on clothes that you will only be able to wear for the next few weeks, why not try shopping a little smarter? Certain dresses and skirts for example would be fine to wear on a summer holiday, but could also transition through to autumn and winter when you team them up with tights, boots and a jacket. At least that way if you do want to spend a little more on nicer pieces you won’t have to wait a year to wear them again once you’re back from your trip.

Shop The Sales

Since we’re right towards the end of the summer, many clothing stores are now running sales. The stock gets sold off cheaply to make space for the season ahead, meaning you can cash in on some fantastic deals. Swoop in and pick up some items for your trip at a fraction of the price you would have paid a few weeks ago. If you follow your favorite stores on social media, you will be one of the first to hear about sales and you give yourself chance of getting your hands on the best items. If you don’t plan on spending much at all, finding your wardrobe in the sale and clearance section is always going to be a good move.

Go To Thrift Stores

If you want to grab items and discount prices, the thrift store is the place to be. You might not be able to find your entire wardrobe in here but if you keep an eye out, you might be able to grab a couple of great key pieces to work with. You’re never going to spend much in a thrift shop so even if you’re lucky and there are lots of perfect items, you will get a great deal for your vacation wardrobe. Because new things are being brought into thrift stores all the time, your best bet is to pop in regularly in the run up to your trip so you can keep an eye on the new additions and grab anything you like the look of before someone else does.

Use What You Have

If you’re not looking to spend much money, nothing makes more sense than to use things you already have. If you really dig deep in your wardrobe you’re sure to find at least a few items which are suitable, you might have even bought things and never worn them. Take advantage, see what other pieces you will need to make an outfit and go from there.

Host a Swap Party

We all have clothes in our wardrobe that are in good condition but aren’t quite right for us. Maybe we went off the style or color, perhaps after gaining or losing weight things don’t fit right anymore. Instead of them sitting there collecting dust, why not get your friends together for a swap party? You can all bring a few items, have some drinks and try on things of each other. It gives you the opportunity to get hold of some new clothing items in return for things you’re never going to wear.

These are just three ways you can look fantastic on your last minute summer getaway. If you’re really thrifty, you will use a combination of these methods! At full price, clothes can be expensive- particularly when you’re not even going to get a full season’s wear out of them. So shop smart and keep an eye out for bargains and discounts. Keep your vacation wardrobe as small capsule closet, and don’t pay full price for the items you do pick where possible.
